Insane amount of time?

My grandpa is giving me his iphone - as non-technical and with such bad memory, we cant figure out password to log out so we can restore the phone for me. Apple-ID ends upp locked for security reasons, and ofc we find a note with the password afterwards. Now its gonna take 13 days????????? until he can reset a password he doesn't even want to reset now we know what it is, and what difference does it make when the apple-id is locked?

Really sad that it doesn't work out at all, and the support has given me different types of information? I don't even know how we unlock the apple-id now? Because when we tried it just ended up being some "unkown error"... Just tiring

If you are using Account Recovery, it takes time. I don't see anywhere Apple says "13 days' as suggested in an earlier post.

How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password - Apple Support

The document talks about ways to speed up recovery.

If you don't care about the account, just want to recover use of the device and don't care about the old account, Apple can completely reset a device if a person can provide sufficient evidence of valid ownership. Do this online at: Activation Lock support request - https://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support Apple says, "Proof of ownership documentation is required," but does not state what currently constitutes proof. Prior to this new online service Apple typically required the original receipt issued by Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller and documented provenance (so typically it would be the original owner who does this, or a descendant with legal proof of ownership).

I don't know if waiting for an unlock request would be any faster than Account Recovery.
