f.txt malware

Today I found that on a specific website, a newspaper, I get downloads of an f.txt every time I open an article.

This file ends up in the downloads folder.

It only happens with that specific website, any other website has no problem at all.

I found it might be a kind of malware hijacking advertisement downloads.

How can I fix this?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.5

Malware Hey guys, I recently clicked on a suspicious link over text, and I was wondering if I could get any possible malware or virus from it? I have seen that most websites say not, but if I get a more recent answer it might ease my mind.

Hi Giorgio1955,

If you suspect that your Mac has malware:

Delete the downloaded files.
Make sure that you're running on the latest macOS updates. You can check for new updates in System Preferences -> Software Update.
Malwarebytes has an excellent reputation on this site. The premium tier isn't necessary - the free version will work fine.
