Google Chrome app, holding down on links to pop up a menu to Open in new Tab, Copy Link... not working anymore

this exact thing is happening to me too, and i even upgraded phones (not because of this, but i was definitely hoping it was a case of an older phone). went from my iphone 8 to a 12 mini this past week, the 8 on 14.8 and the 12 mini on 15 now. it’s driving me insane. i dislike using safari, since chrome syncs better and safari has extremely limited functionality in pretty much every capacity… except tabs it seems. Ugh. since it’s consistent on both phones & updates (not on my ipad though), i’m thinking it might be on chrome’s side unfortunately.

I first noticed this happening after recent system update. In Chrome app (on iOS 12mini & 8+), holding down on a link will open extra options menu, at first. Then suddenly it just doesn’t work some of the time. It seems temperamental. For example, it bugs out if I try to ‘open in new tab’ a link that I’ve previously already visited and then it will no longer work for any link. In that situation, I’ve been able to get it working again by exiting the Chrome app & closing it entirely to shut down its background refresh. Then, re-opening it will allow the extra menu to pop up again. The problem with this approach is the tab I was on that had a link I wanted to open will be gone. So it seems like an error occurred and the app reverts back to the tabs I had at its most recent background refresh prior to me stepping out of line. Very frustrating for those of us who like to go tab-happy. Hopefully someone will be able to correct it back for next update.

I have similar bug in the app. I need to press for long time for the menu to open almost 3 seconds, which is very frustrating and exhausting.

i wonder if there is a way to alter chrome’s deep settings, like this delay time for the menu.

I have the same issue too. Clearly we aren’t going to get help on this anytime soon, but I’m hoping that my response helps bump the thread to catch the notice of someone who can actually help
