Huge lag between taking screenshots and them appearing on my desktop

I take screenshots for work throughout the day. All morning the screenshots had been appearing normally on my desktop (ie instantly right after I take them), then at a certain point they stopped appearing. I checked out all my screenshot settings and made sure they were still set to appear on my Desktop and not any other folder. Around 30-40 min later, the screenshots finally start belatedly appearing on my desktop. I have restarted my computer since and the issue persists. Any thoughts?

Again, my screenshots settings appear to be fine. But the lag is not normal and hugely disruptive to my workflow. I have not been able to figure out a workaround.

I'm on Big Sur 11.5.2.
