Contacts group text messaging not working on Mac

When I type in the Contact Group Name to send a message on my Mac...the group names do not appear..

MacBook, macOS 11.6

Try selecting the group in the Contacts app. Right-click the group and select "Send Email to (group)"

I was able to message the group by typing in all the contact names on new message and then going to the info tab to name the group. Now the group appears when I create a new message. Thank you for your suggestion.
