iPadOS 15 Home Screen
I just updated to iPadOS 15 and cannot get my widgets to appear on the side of my Home Screen like they used to be. Is this layout gone??

There are many changes within iPadOS15 - of which one is the loss of the Today view on the first Home Screen.
Whilst you are now able to freely position widgets on any of the Home Screens, you have lost the “compact” first Home Screen layout (that shows a compressed 4x6 grid of App/Folder icons and Today view). Now, without the compressed view, Widgets individually occupy elements of the 4x6 icon grid - and will displace some App/Folder icons as necessary.
The net effect of adding Widgets to the Home Screen(s) results in reduced efficiency in using available screen space on Home Screens.
Apple do invite constructive feedback, comments and feature requests via their product feedback pages. For iPad and iPadOS:
You are encouraged to make use of this facility in expressing any views concerning issues, bugs, or functionality changes of which you are unhappy.
5 columns in portrait and 6 columns in landscape. How stupid can you do things. I don’t use widgets but when I change from portrait to landscape mode the app icons are not in their usual place anymore. This is very confusing AND stupid software developing.
70% of the time I use portrait, so when I switch to landscape I have to “search” where my app is.
But you can’t just casually place them where ever one wants. That option doesn’t exist at all. If you think it does, then wow. Just wow.
Some of us like a more organized, not chaotic screen. I also don’t want to swipe right to see what would have been in my “Today View”….I’m ADD….that’s literally the last place I’m going to look.
AND if you add a new app icon or widget to the homescreen….its not like tetris where you fit it all back together, various blocks, simple puzzling…actually soothe…it’s like 52 card pickup and someone continually tossing the cards in the air, with another on the floor mixing them all around like “where’s the queen” and you’re intoxicated……it’s INSANE. Whoever generated this idea at apple…should be fired.
Change is inevitable.
As the whole world has recently seen.
Of course things change, but changing things to the worse when you don’t have to, just to say you have changed things doesn’t make sense. (Ok this is becoming a philosophy thread now)
Can you get rid of all of them? I have none now on iOS 14 - I don't need nor do I want any. The app icons are already more than I want, but tolerable. If not, I will not upgrade.
Change is Change It is neither intrinsically good or bad.
I can arrange widgets any way I wish, EXCEPT the way they were in iOS14. No, the new widgets feature is not better, at least for me. I liked the widgets being hidden unless I wanted to look at them.
Every time Apple does a numerical release you change a feature that we’ve gotten used to, don’t allow a way to make it the way we like, and then tell us it’s better. At least you left a way to put the Safari address bar back where it belongs. I suppose I should count my blessings.
