Can't upgrade to Xcode 13 because appstoreagent uses up all memory

When trying to update to Xcode 13 from the App Store the appstoreagent process uses all available memory until my iMac eventually freezes and I have to kill the appstoreagent process.

Is there any manual method to upgrade Xcode without using the appstoreagent?

I am on Big Sur 11.6. But it was also occurring on 11.5.2 as well

Hi ksaro1,

We understand that your Mac begins to freeze when trying to update Xcode. If this behavior continues after restarting your Mac, try entering safe mode and updating from there. This will limit the amount of login items that can run and will run a check on the startup disk. Start up your Mac in safe mode

Regards.

Thanks. That tip did the trick. I am now upgraded to Xcode 13. It did take about 3 hours though?
