iOS 15 Messages Notifications Not Working

After updating to iOS 15, I have noticed that SMS/iMessage notifications from the Messages app no longer trigger audible (text tones), visual (LED flash) or haptic (vibration) feedback on my phone. The notification tile still appears in my notification center on the lock screen as well as banners when my phone is unlocked. I also notice that if I am actively using my phone, the audio notification and haptics trigger but they do not do this when the phone is locked.

I have confirmed that I am not in any type of focus mode (Do Not Disturb) and I have also attempted to toggle my notification settings on and off for Messages with no success.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Update. I went into the apple watch settings on the phone. Notifications/Messages. I had selected Custom Notifications in the past which had worked. Changed it back to "Mirror my iPhone." The notifications are now working correctly (for the time being anyway... we'll see)

I have the same problem. I did discover that if I set the messages sound to Note (the default), then I would get a sound, but this sound scares my dog because it is the same sound I used as a reminder to give her her allergy shots and she runs out of the room.

I also discovered that the sound for all my contacts has been set to the default Note (automatically - not by me), but I don't hear it unless Note is selected as the sound for messages.

Another problem is that I no longer get messages notifications on my Mac even though I have it set to allow notifications.

I have been dealing with this issue since iOS 15 was released as well. However, to add another twist, the iPhone and watch will alert me when I am on an exclusively cellar network (note: I have tested this with my watch at home and with me to see if the watch was the issue). When I am home, we use Wi-Fi calling and that is when the iMessage notification issues occur. When the screen is locked and asleep, I get no iMessage alerts or banners, until I touch the screen. At that point of touching the screen, all of the banners are present for all of the messages I was not alerted for.

I have Reset All Settings, Reset Network Settings, Erased the iPhone and setup as new, Erased the iPhone and restored from my oldest backup.

Nothing has worked.

I have called several Senior Advisors and finally have caught the attention of Apple Engineering. I worked with this Senior Advisor for over an hour today going over various things and taking screenshots to send to Engineering. I sure hope that something positive comes of this.

I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max, my wife has an iPhone 8 and we both have this messaging issue. We are both on iOS 15.3.1.

I transferred my data and settings directly from the old phone to the new one so, in theory, the new one should have been set up identically to the old one.

Joe,

Thanks for posting the update. Glad to hear that the replacement iPhone fixed the problem.

Can you remind me what all you'd tried before? I'm pretty sure that you said you'd done a 'deep clean' (Erase All Content), and then reconfigured the phone from scratch. Did you go even deeper and reinstall a new copy of the iOS firmware?? That can be done via the Finder, but I generally use the iMazing application. ("Generally?!" - LOL. I've only had to do it once...). I'm curious to know if you'd done a complete reinstallation of iOS. It seems unlikely that the root cause would be a hardware defect in your 13 Pro, but you never know.

My iPhone XR has been working fine (re notifications) since the 15.4.1 update. There have been 1 or 2 messages where I think it failed to send notifications to my Watch, but I'm not 100% sure. I might have missed the audible and haptic signals.

Exact same issue as everyone else who has posted here. No notifications in iOS 15 on iPhone 12 Pro Max for major main apps such as Messages and Spark mail. Changed all recommended Focus et. al. settings as detailed by Apple's recommendations ON to OFF back to ON, tried the Siri Announce ON - OFF trick and that didn't work either. Clearly this is an iOS 15 bug. Notifications continue to provide haptic feedback on Apple Watch so at least I know to look at my phone to read them.
