Hi.
I'm considering getting AppleTV 4k device as my TV is struggling on the software side a bit (WebOS)
I've found out that the recent boxes use Bluetooth for the remote so communication with the remote should not be a problem.
Are there any downsides to hiding AppleTV under or behind the TV?

There are mount systems available for the Apple TV box, if you would prefer that.
E.g.:
TotalMount Apple TV Mount - Amazon
HIDEit Mounts Apple TV Mount - Amazon
Downsides:
- Can’t see the status light (might also be an upside)
- IR functionality is not available
- checking plugs may be less easy
- ventilation works differently.

Can you elaborate on IR functionality not being available?
As long as the AppleTV is connected via HDMI-CEC, it will turn off the TV, right?
What do i need the IR for?
The ATV Remote can send commands via Bluetooth or IR. It can learn the IR signals for controlling a TV directly. So even if HDMI-CEC does not work you should be OK controlling the TV with the ATV out of sight (mine is in a cupboard). Having said this, the controls are very limited - on/off, volume and, if you are lucky, mute.
Some non-Apple remotes for the ATV only work via IR so they can only be used with the ATV in sight.
Sounds like you have already decided to do this and are just looking for confirmation. The answer is to just do it and see what happens. The only way to see if there are downsides is to experience them in a real situation.
Yeah, I'll keep the line of sight with with the TV and I really don't see a reason why ATV needs to see the remote so I guess that's sorted.
