What does “Notifications Silenced” mean on iPhone

Hello,

I just updated my OS to the latest version yesterday.

My friend’s OS is also updated. For some reason, We always get this message “has notifications silenced” on our message thread even:

  • do not disturb is off
  • focus is off

anyone else experiencing this? Attached is the screenshot.

So, like many of you I tried everything and nothing worked. Eventually, I got in contact with Apple support and what ended up fixing it for me was to turn off the “Share Focus Status” in the contact settings. I even had my wife turn it back on and it doesn’t show that message anymore. See images below Hope this helps!

  1. From phone you are seeing this message coming from, open the contact settings for contact seeing the message.

2. Turn the setting off (and back on if you want). This should instantaneously remove the message.

Again, we need to be perfectly clear about the phone you are working with, in terms of the text sending and receiving chain.

Your comments seem to indicate that you are seeing the “silenced” message on your phone, when receiving a text message. If this is the case, YOU CANNOT FIX THIS! The sender of that text needs to toggle their Focus settings off/on to resolve that message on your phone.

If someone else is getting the silenced message on texts you send to them, toggle your Focus settings and that should resolve the message on their phone.

Not sure if this is a fluke or not but for some reason hubbies iPhone had iMessage turned OFF under Settings-Messages-iMessage. I toggled it ON, sent him a text for the 4th time and it went through.

Again hopefully not a one time fix. My iMessage was on. We don’t know how his got turned off.

I was getting the same message everyone else is and he wasn’t getting my texts. Did that and it worked. Hopefully it sticks.

My spouse and I noticed the same problem with the recent upgrade and are as frustrated as many others are with Apple‘s decision to do this without consultation or consideration for whether or not we wanted people to know whether or not our notifications were on or off. We notice it only pops up when we use the messaging service on our iPhones so we went into the settings for messaging and turned off the “focus” setting. That seem to work

I tried everything that has been posted on this board. Nothing worked. The other day, I updated to 15.2.1, they made no mention of a fix by the way. Anyway, it was still there then I checked Focus and the update had turned it back on. I turned it off, went in and deleted the schedule and voila, problem gone. It even backtracked and took those earlier notifications off any message thread. I know, it’s all voodoo, I did all of that stuff before the update, cycled phone power once or twice a week, kept up with updates, nothing worked. Now this. Some of you will try this to no avail, it may work for some. Check Focus, it seems to sneak stuff in. It’s all voodoo. Good luck.

Hey there Dinyehl!

From what we gather you're having issues with Message notifications being shown as silenced in your conversations.

Have you tried toggling the Focus settings on both devices before restarting the iPhone to test?

If so, can you check your Message notification settings to help make sure everything checks out there?
