How to set myself up as an administrator?

I am the sole user of this laptop.

When I go on Users and Groups in System Preferences, it has my account listed on the side as a user, not an administrator.

However, there is no administrator account to my laptop.

So I click on the lock to make myself an administrator, but it says that I need an admin's username and password to do this.

I have been unable to install things on my computer since I got it because of this. Please help thank you :)
