Battery drain in WatchOS 8 on Apple Watch 6

I think the creepiest thing is Apple's complete silence one the issue.

On a side note, I noticed my watch 7 is finally reaching the end of each day with some satisfactory 70-ish% of the battery.

I'm turning the display always on to see how it behaves today. When it first arrived, this wasn't a major drain on the battery.

But I'm also turning OFF several apps/notifications when the wrist is down (only now I noticed I can select them individually).

My brother has a series 5 which he didn't use for some time during the pandemic and then went back to using it and he noticed the battery drain immediately. Of course he had some watchOSs to catch up with when he started using it again, so I can only speculate if one of the updates affected his watch.

At the same time, I think some update also fixed the same issue on mine. Maybe it's this complete contradictory and random behavior that's making Apple silent on this.

Still working fine. The other setting I changed had to do with email and the length of time messages were stored on the device.

I just found in one of my diagnostic logs that it mentions NumPhysical erases... hmmm sounds like they need to get on that. And i have about 10-12 diagnostic logs since yesterday afternoon.

WatchOS triggered the problem for me!

That’s excellent. I bet they finally fixed it with 8.3. A normal battery drain is about 5% per hour for the watch to last the standard 18 hours between charges.

Hi when I unpaired I got an option to go with an earlier backup whicj was IOS 7. That might work for you.

I trued to unpair and restore for 2 times the battery working well in the first day to going to the same problem and quickly battery down to very quick like first day after update but not as normal before update I think  have to quickly update the software to cover this big problem and sure i can use my watch for 3 hours only every day and contenting it to charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any news from your Apple contact? I have noticed my battery draining on my series 6 hence coming here to see if there is a solution

Mine died mid workout today (45mins). Prior to tracking I had 40% battery.

If I set up as a new watch as some have suggested will work will I lose my previous workout/activity data ?

Apple is still researching. A meeting yesterday was only used to get more information from my watch for their analyst to study and to check if I had updated to the newest IOS 15.0.1 on the phone. You can be assured this is now documented as a known issue with Apple, and they will solve it. I suspect an OS or workout app patch is needed.

You can try the different things people say work, but there is no doubt the battery drain is caused by something else. After setting up as a new watch or repairing, you will not lose any data from your watch since it is stored in your activity app on your iphone and also because it’s all backed up anyway.

Another Apple meeting is scheduled for Friday.

Thanks for the update. I changed a few settings and rebooted etc. But your right not too much different. I tracked yoga work out this morning 45mins. Started with 100% and finished with 71% (additionally my screen isn’t on autowake). Will need to charge before gym this evening I expect. Really hope there is a patch soon.

I read a lot of thread in this forum. I tried everything. Unpair - repair (as a new watch, from backup), hardreset, factory reset with erase, i deleted the watch from my iCloud. i turned off the hartrate monitor on watch. I put the fitness app in power saving mode, etv. Not working.

I got a similar problem. Apple Watch 6, cellular. Connected with iPhone or wifi no problem. In cellular only mode the battery drains to zero within one hour. Battery health is 86%. Apple Support sees no Problem.

I have the same issue. Here. My series 3 last for around 26-28 hours. After the 7.5 and even on 8 it lasts 12 hours. Tried everything, erase, configure as new, removed apps, etc. It is the same behaviour after 3 weeks. The battery health is 81. Unfortunately this kind of event makes me not wanting to buy ever a new apple watch. The watch has three years. And now It is no longer usable!

After unpairing, wiping the series 5 watch and restoring, the battery performed better for two days, then crap again. WatchOS 8.0.1 didn't fix it either, nor did iOS 15.0.2. So yes multiple restarts have occurred.
