After recent update the bass on my HomePods has reduced. The ‘reduce bass’ option is toggled off and the bass is still dramatically different to what I’ve grown used to and what I ultimately prefer

Begs the question: Why is there no EQ option devoted to HomePod playback?
Toggle the bass reducer back on and restart HomePods. Once restarted , toggle bass reducer to off.
To restart: Open the Home App - Long press on the HomePod icon to bring up settings, scroll down to the gear icon, tap that, scroll to the bottom to Reset HomePod - then select Restart HomePod
see if that helps, otherwise you might need to reset HomePod by pressing the top. Reset HomePod - Apple Support - Then set them up again.
