Logic board shorted literally 2 months after warranty on MacBook Pro costed nearly 6000USD.

Alrighty im pretty ****** and disappointed.

I bought one of top configurations of MacBook Pro last year in July. Paid all my savings for it to be able to work as im a video/photo creator. Im using UPS at all times while charging my laptop(when its happen i had it running on battery) and it was 2 weeks project in FinalCut ProX when my logic board shorted. basically killing all my work. Next day i came to MacStore at first and then to Apple store where they did diagnostics and discovered what i need to replace logic board and i cant even retrieve data from it. Like a month before i had already problems with it and had to resetup the whole operating system but did all myself luckily im not dumb and using apple computers since 2007. Anyways community and surely Dear Apple do you think is fare to pay 6000usd for top notch laptop and it dies 2 months after warranty? Right now i have a bill 1200USD to fix it without getting my data out of it means my movie i was working on is gone. Really this situation is getting me on concideration of my loyality to Apple products like big time.

You dont buy 6000usd laptop to get it fried next year.

Please i want to hear opinions and especially from Apple itself.

Thank You!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.5

Commercial products, their warranties, and their extended warranties work in a predictable way.

Warrant-able implies, but does not guarantee, High Quality:

Commercial product makers build high quality products. You can tell because the manufacturer is willing to stand by their products and repair or replace them (but only for defects in materials or workmanship) at manufacturers expense for a stated warranty period.

For Apple Macs in most countries, that period is one year. That is the total responsibility Apple or any manufacturer has to you under law. Assumptions about additional responsibility of Apple or any other commercial product-maker's products working longer than the warranty period are not accurate. The amount you paid for the product has no bearing on this. The rules are the same for a car costing US$20,000 or more.

Extended warranty:

Some manufacturers offer extended warranties, also known as service contracts. For a modest pre-payment, the manufacturer agrees to service their product for an additional period of time -- to repair or replace defects in Materials or Workmanship for an additional period. Some users will have No claims during this period. This "insurance effect" allows the manufacturer to keep the price of this service contract relatively low. You generally can not sign up later, because then only owners with problems would sign up, after they discovered an issue.

If you made the decision to NOT pay for the extended warranty, you made a decision to bear the cost of repairs during the extended warranty period yourself.

The MacBook Pro is a lightweight, portable computer that can run on batteries. Being portable, it can easily be subjected to multi-G forces daily, just by being moved about in a completely ordinary way. This is extremely stressful to electro-mechanical equipment. I would never even think about NOT purchasing the extended warranty coverage for such a portable device.

Apple is not here. Apple Support Communities is a User-to-User Support Community.

There are no standard mechanisms for escalating problems to Apple Support from here, and Apple Engineering and Marketing Movers and Shakers do NOT monitor these forums looking for trends and outstanding issues. If other users can not help you think of a fix, No further help is likely to be forthcoming using this medium.

If the suggestions already posted here are not adequate to solve your problem, and you have tried:

• creating a new Account/Userid and logging in with that new Account to eliminate Account issues

• Restarting in Safe Mode to eliminate third-party add-on issues --

THEN: you should use the "Contact Support" link at the top of every web page.

Be polite and professional.

But do not let them tell you "it's fine", unless it really IS fine.

Work with them until:

• the problem is solved -OR-

• they file a Bug Report -OR-

• they forward you to specialist who solves the problem or files a Bug report.

DO NOT "wait for Apple to provide a fix". Unless and until a large number of users present their issues through standard problem-reporting channels, Apple does not know there is a problem, and is NOT working on a fix. Being selfish is the best policy, getting yours fixed helps everyone.

An extended warranty would only give a replacement logic board. I have seen people complain on various forums about issues even after replacing the logic board that needed a second logic board replacement so am myself very sceptical if the replacement itself is worth it

I personally have been a supporter of Apple products and their design having owned all sorts of iPhones, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod mini. It looks obvious that something has gone wrong with this one and it is okay to acknowledge this and move on else you will keep getting comments like below

I see some smart *** here.

Ive been using Mac since 15 years and had couple of issues but not that big as now i would say i swollowed them before. But dude don't you think is kinda unfair to charge freaking 6000usd for the computer that dies in 1 year?

I guess is sounds more of a BS of how to snatch more money from users by big corp. Literally till today i had stocks in apple for past 10 years and just sold it cause i wont be supporting this piece of ...... company anymore.

Sir you seem to have lived through various technology generations and we respect that. However curious to know how some of your posts are being marked “Apple recommended “ and then make your statement that “Apple is not here”.

An intention of any user community is for the “voice of customer” to be heard. Let’s not discourage technical issues being reported. All these issues can very easily be cross verified by our Apple IDs and the open cases we have with Phone support to screen out any malicious intent
