MacBook Pro 16” motherboard issue

Hi

My brand new (bought on 26-Jan-2020) MacBook Pro 16” laptop suddenly stopped working last week and would not boot up.

Took it to the Apple Authorized center and they said the motherboard needs replacement and costs close to INR 64k (close to USD 1000). Quite a shocker for me considering this is a “Pro” product.

Has anyone else faced a similar issue with this Nov 2019 released model and if yes what has been the usual resolution?

Yes. the resolve is replace the "motherboard ."

If you have Apple care+ extend warranty it covers hardware

Ok— so now we have gone from 600, to one other example you provide...

I like this synopsis by Grant Bennet-Alder:

Apple sold about 20 million Macs last year. That's about 400,000 a week for 50 weeks. On a seven-day schedule, that means they shipped over 57,000 a day, and most of them were MacBook/MacBook Pro models.

Thanks for your prompt reply. While Apple service could not determine what was the issue with the current motherboard (all tests green), I did notice that the laptop was slightly warm on the left speaker side on the day it did not turn on. Question: Has this issue been fixed by Apple as this is still being sold as a current model. Debating whether it’s worth paying a hefty amount for the motherboard replacement if the issue has not yet been addressed by Apple

Computers can fail at anytime....

There is no larger issue that I have seen, and no service programs for this being a wide spread issue—

luck of the draw, use your best instincts as to how to proceed.
