change color of Safari tabs
Safari 15 displays the active tab by graying it out. How can I reverse that behavior? It's the opposite of everything else, and it's incredibly confusing and annoying. I haven't been able to find the setting yet.

I agree.
There is no setting.
Not only has the active tab been lighter for as long as I can remember, look at the Finder for comparison: the active window is lighter, and background windows are darker.
They should at least offer a Preference to revert to the previous behavior.

Along with "change for its own sake."
I could probably find dozens of examples in various applications where dark grey ("grayed out") means "inactive" or "not available."
Maybe Apple added irony to its UI/UX principles, to compete with Microsoft's use of almost-identical button icons.
