I forgot my iPhone encryption password used for backup to my computer. I already know how to clear it, but it involves wiping out lots of settings at the same time. I'm planning to buy the new iPhone. If I do an iCloud backup and then restore the iCloud backup to the new iPhone, does the encryption password get stored in the new iPhone? I don't want that to happen.

Hello wmcintire and welcome to Apple Support Communities. It appears you are having some difficulty with a forgotten password for a backup done to a computer and encrypted.
iCloud backups are always encrypted, but there is no password involved. If you were to create a backup to iCloud of the device in its current state, you would be able to restore from that. The encrypted backup on the computer would become, effectively, redundant and could be deleted.
Just keep in mind that anything deleted between the time the encrypted computer backup was made and when you make the iCloud backup would be lost.
