iOS 15 Find My live location not working for one member of my family.

I have 4 people in my family (including myself). All four of us have iPhones and have upgraded to iOS 15. One of the main features I was interested in was the live location updates in the Find My app. Of the four of us, three of us show up as live location, but the fourth does not. It still shows up like previously... the location works, but it is updated every few seconds/minutes. Not live like the rest of us.

The phone that is not giving live updates is an iPhone XS Max.

The others that do work include an iPhone X, iPhone 11 Pro Max and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Given that the iPhone X is working, I am certain that this is not a phone model specific issue.

I have scoured the settings but have been unable to find what might be blocking the live updates. I have also searched the web and these forums. Perhaps my search terms are not good enough, but I typically can find answers, if they exist, before posting questions like this.

Does anyone know what I could be missing? Is there a setting somewhere that turns on/off the live updates in FindMy?

Thank you.

iPhone XS

Yayyyy, here is a possible answer that has worked for me. This was from Apple. On the person's phone that is NOT showing LIVE on other peoples phones, have that person that you are struggling to see Live go to "Settings"........"FindMy"........"Share My Location". If the slider is showing ON, slide it to OFF, wait for a few seconds, then slide it back ON. I did this on my wife's iPhone and it now shows up on my phone as being Live. Good luck everyone. Let us know here if it works for you as it did for me.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

We have 5 family members all with an Apple Watch 13 pro. Find My works great on LIVE for 4 of us. ALL settings are identical. Gram does not show up on LIVE for any other phone. We have spent hours on the phone with Apple. They eventually got us an appointment at Best Buy geek squad. They worked on it and eventually handed it back saying essentially “we cannot figure it out, it is what it is.”

Today went to the Apple store. They worked on it and said there is some kind of a conflict with the Apple Watch but they got it working. FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. Then it went back to no live. Of course we were then many miles from the Apple store. The Apple people had never seen that problem before. Or so they say.

Rats. Whatever happened to the Apple unofficial motto “It just works”?

Yep. I’ve spent hours and hours on find my seeing if find my live tracking works and have come to the conclusion of “ not really”

friends, family all on latest updates, iPhone 13,12,11’s iPads etc it may sometimes work for all of them and suddenly none at all. There’s no user reason it shouldn’t work as they’re all on very stable connections.

i don’t reckon apple should’ve released it as it needs a lot of work 😒👎🏻

I appreciate all that work you did and you might be on to something. However, I’ve got an Apple Watch (Series 4) that I have had connected to my iPhone since I got it. My live location has worked for everyone else in my family since iOS 15 came out. So in my case, it doesn’t seem like this is the problem. Surely could be for other folks though.

Since posting this thread originally, and since all my family’s live locations started working, it has been fine for us.

There are occasions where someone will show up at first as “Now” but they usually change to “Live” in a matter of seconds. Knocking on wood over here… don’t want to tempt fate, but it’s been working great for me. I use it almost daily to see where my wife is on her commute or to see where my (new driver) son is on his way to and from work/school.

I hope it gets straightened out for everyone else soon.

That was an interesting thought George about the watches, so I shut down my wife's iPhone down but she still doesn't show to be Live. I also have a friend that I can see Live and he does have an iWatch, so I think we can rule that school of thought out. Just like you, a few weeks ago I could see my wife Live, but no longer. She can see and track me live, but I can't track her. We both are up-to-date with iOS. I have a case number with Apple but they seem to be currently as baffled as we all are.

I have an iPhone XR and am operating on ios 15.2 - My wife has an X operating on 15.1. Her phone live tracks all of her "People"on Find My Friends but mine will not live track any of mine. I am surprised that with this problem being so prevalent there is no clear answer. I have checked and re-checked all of my settings and everything is exactly as it should be. Apple, whats the deal?

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this problem. My wife and I both have iPhone 11’s and the same group of persons we follow (our three children and each other). Everyone shows up “live” on my wife’s phone but only one of my kids show “live” on mine. You would think Apple would at least explain why this occurs and there’s such inconsistency but I guess they are too big and aren’t concerned with customer satisfaction.

Unfortunately, my experience does not support this theory. I have a cellular Apple Watch, but I have always shown up as live for all my family members. I was not seeing others in my family, who do not have a watch, as live. So even if the watch has something to do with yours and others experiences, it does not appear to be the cause of mine. And therefore it cannot be the root cause for all the issues.

The good news, for me at least, is that it eventually started working for me and has been ever since. And yep, I’m still using my Apple Watch daily. Hopefully the problem goes away for others at some point. But I do really wish Apple would address or acknowledge the problem.
