When I use my airpods connecting to my macbook air, the microphone comes back sounding staticky. It does not have this issue on my iphone. I have tried forgetting the airpods on my mac and reconnecting them, that hasn't had any effect. There is nothing blocking the microphone on the airpods, and I am always right next to the device when this happens so there isn't anything blocking the bluetooth signal.

This sounds like it may be an issue of Bluetooth interference. Try the tips here:

As the issue is not present when using the AirPods with your iPhone, we can be pretty confident that this is not a hardware issue with the AirPods.

Answers to a couple of questions may help ensure that someone in the community is able to help.
1) What, exactly, are you using the AirPods mic for on the Mac? Are you using them as a recording input?
2) If you do the exact same thing using the Mac's in-built mic, do you get the same kind of audio anomaly?
3) Are you able to connect a non-Bluetooth (i.e., wired) audio input to the Mac for testing?
