App Store asking for password rather than using Face ID

My App Store is asking for my password rather than using Face ID, even in the case of free apps. I’ve tried disabling and re-enabling use Face ID for “ITunes and App Store” and it hasn’t changed anything.

I’ve migrated from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to an iPhone 13 Pro today. The 11 was running iOS 15 and had been working with Face ID in the App Store for 2 years.

Face ID works perfectly well for unlock, apps, Apple ID sign-in etc. but just isn’t appearing as an option in the App Store.

Any help greatly appreciated.

(note, selected iPhone 12 below as the 13 isn’t yet in the list)

Hi Lissy,

Thanks for the link - I've checked and whilst I have "Always Require Password" checked for "when purchasing", I also have "Require password" set to OFF for "Free Downloads".

I can confirm the issue still exists when I'm attempting to download something that's free.

I wouldn't actually mind that, however, if the phone allowed me to use Face ID rather than a password when purchasing. I've been using Face ID for this purpose instead of a password for the last 4 years over two previous phones.

Many thanks,

Craig
