all apps taking a regular non-RAW shot use the same camera API, which means all apps get exactly the same pixels from the operating system

only if you apply filters it looks different, but then again by DEFAULT instagram does NOT apply any filter EXCEPT A LOSSLESS CROP of the image

do you realize by extrapolation that this issue affects at least several orders of magnitude real life devices since only a few percent manage to actually see it and only a few manage to go to the communities?

i’m so glad other people have found this! i’ve just gone from an IPHONE 8 to a 13 pro max and the camera is atrocious. i actually bout this phone for the camera capabilities from reviews and so far the images are pixelated and do not come out crisp at all.

So if the reviewers all love it, you have to ask what are you doing differently?

I've never seen a pixelated photo come out of the Camera app unless I was using digital zoom, which frankly one never should.

That was unnecessarily condescending.

Next time i’ll remember to spell out my exact process of taking photos so that you don’t have to assume what’s wrong.

This forum isn’t for you to “actually” everyone on the thread. If 30 pages of people are talking about their poor camera quality, Apple Inc doesn’t need you to reply to every single one explaining (see assuming) how they’re wrong.

And please do not tell me to report the problem to apple. I’ve already done so, awaiting further contact from apple support. I am still allowed to post my frustrations with the problem on a forum specifically about the problem.

If you've already left feedback for Apple, there's nothing more you can do; this site doesn't exist for users to commiserate, that's what other web sites and social media are for.

I asked what you are doing differently in your photos if your results are not as good as others' have been. I didn't ask what you were doing wrong, I asked what you were doing that was different.

Hi, when I try to use the wide-angle lens as a macro lens, The I focus refuses to stay in a little box and keeps shifting focus outside the box to the background and I’m wondering if there are plans to be a fix for this or if there’s something I’m doing wrong. I would love to have a little more control over what I am focusing on. Thanks for suggestions

I'm not happy with the photos out of the 13 pro either. I still have the 6s and to be honest, the photos on the 6s look more natural in general, I get like an oil painting effect on the 13, it's not nice at all on a phone like this. Is this a software problem that can be addressed ?

I really thought I was doing something wrong. Thank you guys for sharing…I upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max and I must say I am immensely disappointed. I love taking pictures and right now I am discouraged from doing so because I have to do too much editing on just one photo before sharing….. The picture quality enhancement was what I was looking forward to with this new phone but….

Nope. No one here works for Apple. I am a user, just like you're a user.

I don't know what you want from anyone here on this user to user only forum. We didn't design the new cameras on iPhone. We can't deliver what you expect of them.

What I did before buying my new 13 Pro Max is researched all the features and learned that the pro models have close-up photography which the regular 13 doesn't have. I bought the Pro for this and the other enhanced features on the pro models.

I'm sorry you didn't know the difference. But it's not my fault and no one here can do anything about how close an iPhone 13 is capable of focusing.

If it is truly causing you so much anxiety, it might be a good idea to sell your phone and go buy something which won't cause anxiety. Life is too short to let a cell phone upset you this much.

I’m having the same issue. This frontal camera looks worse than my old Nintendo DS. I can’t believe how slow it looks too, i have the 13 pro max and coming from the X i cannot stand this. Might return this phone soon since Apple is not responding to this

I'm having the same issues with soft images. I'm on 13 Pro Max 15.1 and I'm getting soft focused photos. I've done direct side by side comparisons with my wife's 11 Pro and hers is sharper on everything but especially things with text. I've played around with all the various camera toggles suggested and nothing has helped. I've opened the photos on my computer to view and can confirm they are still soft viewed on a monitor. This is especially noticeable when there is text in the scene. It seems like the 1x lens is the worst. I'm not sure if this is defective parts or some funky software issue. I am very disappointed as I waited for 6 years (6S Plus) to get a new phone and camera improvements were my #1 requirement. I'm not sure if the Apple store will take this seriously for a replacement, seems like not everyone has an eye for image quality.

Who's photos are you replying about? If mine, I couldn't disagree with you more. The TV in my photos is not the subject and the show was on, while I was taking a photo which would naturally not show the show in focus in any way as it wasn't what was being photographed to begin with. I was showing how well iPhone 13 Pro captures close up pictures, which my photos prove are terrific.

LOL. No. I have owned almost EVERY iPhone since my first iPhone 3G. The only phone I haven't owned is 7 or 8. I also had 11 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max. And still my 13 Pro Max outperforms the previous models. And I've been on this forum, helping users for over a decade now. So, I'm pretty knowledgeable about the different iPhone models.

I honestly can't tell the difference either. Mainly b/c the photos are so different - different scenes, lighting, subject size, etc. To do a proper comparison all things should be equal, with the only difference being the thing you want to compare. In this case, the iPhone.
