Transfer AppleCare to a new purchase of an iPhone 13 Pro Max?

I have 14 months left on my AppleCare plan for my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It is paid in full. Can I transfer it to a new purchase of an iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Transfer? No.

You can usually get a pro-rated refund, and can then start a new plan for the new device.
