Is it true that ios 15 offers to mute camera shutter sound on japan variant iphones if they used in other countries?

I don't know why this is still marked as the right answer when it isn't. I just bought my daughter a refurbished iPhone 7 and to our surprise the shutter sound could not be muted, so I started to investigate and realized we had been sold a Japanese model (A1779). Then I started to investigate whether there was any way to disable it and came across this post here, and was disheartened.
But after reading so many replies in this thread confirming that it could be done I just didn't understand how someone could be so sure it wasn't possible while so many others were confirming it was. However, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to mute the shutter sound on my daughter's phone. I updated to iOS 15.2 (it was on 15.1 when we got it) and still the shutter sound could not be muted. Then I came across a Reddit post indicating that you needed to be on iOS 15.x, be physically outside Japan and have a non-Japanese SIM card. Well, I met all three requirements and still could not disable the shutter sound.
So I decided to remove the SIM card and insert it again and... voilà. Now my daughter's Japanese model iPhone on iOS 15.2 can take photos silently!
So here is confirmation that it works, even on iOS 15.2 which just came out yesterday, so that maybe someone responsible for this thread can unmark the post I'm answering to as the correct answer and mark any of the many posts indicating that I can indeed be done as the right one.

having an iphone se 1st gen in ios 15, surprisingly, it is true.
No my friend live in Japan she have an iPhone Xs and she said that she no longer have that annoying camera sound after the iOS 15
I have updated mine to ios 15 and its a korean variant. Shutter sound is ON in default but after updating, mine can be in silent.

U should definitely contact support if it really annoys u, bcz for me it mutes all shutter sounds
iOS 15.3.1 This is my version and my iPhone is a japanese as well. The shutter sound disappeared just after the update
I am asking about japanese variant iphones because they have laws not to mute camera shutter sound. Until now, even if we purchased a iphone from japan and used it on other countries, shutter sound did not mute. But I heard it can be muted after ios 15. I want to know that before updating.

It is very difficult for us to manage the annoying camera shutter sound In Japan version of iPhones.
There should be a hidden option in Japanese versions like if the the device is being used outside of Japan then it should not play the camera shutter in mute mode.
I’m among those million people’s around the globe who is not in Japan and suffering from the same problem.
And the retailers are selling this models openely and around 70% users are not aware of this Hidden feature of Japanese version.
Dear apple we are cutting our expenses, we are sacrificing alot, many of us are taking small loan also to buy this expensive iPhones to fulfill their dream but we are ending up with this camera shutter.
Atlast i want to say that there should be a predefined or hard coded background feature in Japanese model iPhones if it is being used outside of Japan then it should not play the camera shutter.
It should track automatically from carrier or GPS location and select the settings automatically. Please resolve this , please.

This has always been a feature, everywhere. To mute the camera shutter sound, turn on Silent Mode by flipping the Ring/Silent switch next to the volume buttons so that the orange part is showing.
I heard a rumour that ios 15 uses geo location for country of using and therefore if we use japanese iphones in other countries, it can be muted. Is it true?
Think its true or a bug, as no sound coming now in my phone and i an thankful if its a feature instead of a bug
