iOS 15: Some apps not launching from Spotlight Search

I've recently updated to iOS 15 and some apps aren't showing correctly in Spotlight Search. For example, when I search for "Excel", it shows in the Apps list but the icon isn't showing (see screenshot) and nothing happens when I click on it.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but it's still the same.

This also happens with a few other apps.

All apps launch fine from the App Library.

After speaking to Apple Support, they could only suggest resetting the phone. For anyone else that experiences this issue, backup > Erase All Content and Settings > restore fixed my issue.

Hello Kungfauxn00b,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you're having an issue searching with your iPhone, using iOS 15, and we'd like to help out.

Have you restarted your iPhone since noticing this happening? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unexpected issues.

Restart your iPhone

If you're still having the same issue, verify that the Siri & Search settings show Microsoft Excel being enabled.

Use Search on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care!

Hey,

I've restarted a few times – same issue.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the apps – same issue.

I've confirmed the apps are available for "Show App in Search" – same issue.

It's happening with about ⅓ of apps. All apps launch OK via the App Library so I know the apps are OK.

All apps appeared in Spotlight Search and opened before upgrading to iOS 15.
