iMovie MacOS Version Issue with iOS 15

After updating my iPhone 11 to iOS 15, importing projects edited in the iPhone to iMovie in mac showing error,

Error in iOS Project Import

Failed to import iOS project. The project’s version is too new.

While checking the version of Mac iMovie - 10.2.5

iOS iMovie Ver - 2.3.3

Does anyone know how to fix this issue, not seen any new version in the Mac app store for iMovie.

Just to see what happens you might try the following procedures that are easy to do (a matter of rebooting while holding down certain keys). Not likely to solve it but worth a try.

Resetting the System Management Controller

Try resetting the System Management Controller (but no longer available for the new M1 computers):

Resetting the NVRAM or PRAM

That is frustrating, for sure.

So, when you try to export an iOS iMovie project to your Mac using AirDrop, it doesn't work? The project should appear in your Mac's downloads folder and when you double click on it it should open in a Mac iMovie project. That's the way it works on my older Mac iMovie and iOS iMovie versions, but for some reason you are getting the error message.

Ah. I see now what you were saying. Yeah, that's an issue that Apple will need to address.

As a temporary workaround you could export the iOS project as a video to your Mac, and from there import the video into iMovie as one long clip. Editing will be a bit limited but you can still do quite a lot: splitting and trimming, deleting split segments, adding effects, adding other clips, changing the background music, adding titles, doing overlays, detaching audio, and so on. It's just the embedded edits that can't be changed, although somtimes you can cut out a title or transition and add a new one, or reimport the original photo or clip, insert it, and add new edits like a title.
