“Photos” used up most of the storage space after I transferred all data to iPhone13 Pro

After I  transferred all the data from my old iPhone11 Pro 256 GB (iOS15) to iPhone13 Pro 256 GB side by side, "Photos" have used up most of the storage space on the new iPhone.

"Photos" only occupied 5.35 GB on my old iPhone storage (total 73 GB of 256 GB used out of my 2-year-old iPhone11 Pro).  On this new iPhone 13 Pro, "Photos" are taking way too much space, using more than 175 GB. It isn't very pleasant to find out I only have 25 GB available on my brand new iPhone13 Pro 256 GB!  Yes, I have turned on the "optimize iPhone Storage" in the Photos setting from the beginning. I cleaned up all the deleted images. I restarted the new iPhone several times.

It appears the size of other App programs remained more or less the same between the old and new iPhones.  I wonder if I should do anything to free up storage space taken by "Photos" on the new iPhone 13  Pro 256 GB.

Please see the attached pictures of two iPhones (L: iPhone11 Pro and R: iPhone13 Pro).

Thank you for your help.

My issue with photos taking up 116GB was finally resolved with the iOS 15.1 software update. These photos now show taking up only 12GB of space.

I am having the same issue with my 13 pro. I went to a concert last night, and now I have almost no storage on this brand new phone. I specifically asked the Verizon worker whenever purchasing this phone whether or not my concert photos and videos would take up all of my storage and he said that I should be fine. Well I’m not fine, and I’m very upset about it. I have also tried all of the listed suggestions from this customer service representative. Help us!

I’m having the exact same issue. My gb didn’t go up as high, but there has certainly been a jump after transferring from my XR. I have done everything that you and everyone else did, including updating my phone to iOS 15.1 and I’m still having the same issue. I even deleted nearly a thousand photos/videos (even double checking to make sure they were completely deleted by changing the date after permanent deletion) and it’s still extremely high. Can someone please help, this is extremely concerning.

It appears you're having issues with your photos taking up space in your device.

Do you have iCloud Photos enabled? If you do, it would be expected for your photos to take up storage space on iPhone, as the upload has not yet completed. You'll want to make sure you're connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network.

Also, you'll want to check your video and picture storage settings while using iCloud Photos. If you have the "Download and Keep Originals" feature enabled, this will take up more space on your iPhone. This setting will keep full resolution photos and videos stored on your device when enabled. Take a look at the resources below.
