Sound control buttons

I just updated to iSO 15 and now when I want to change the volume of a sound app I have to select that app to change either up or down. In the past releases I only needed to press the top button to increase volume and press the lower button to decrease the volume. I have an iPhone 11.

Hello jdrescher,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We've reviewed your question and it looks like you want to know how to adjust app volume on your iPhone. It's understandable that you'd want this clarified, so allow us to assist with that. Please start by taking a look here: Adjust the volume on iPhone. It explains: “When you’re on the phone or listening to songs, movies, or other media on iPhone, you can use the buttons on the side of your device to adjust the audio volume. Otherwise, the buttons control the volume for the ringer, alerts, and other sound effects. You can also use Siri to turn the volume up or down.”

If you have follow-up questions, please let us know. We're here for you. Have a fantastic day!

Thanks for getting back with us and explaining this, Jim. We've done some testing here and it does not appear that this behavior was changed. We checked with several apps and music streaming programs and we are still able to turn the volume up and down, even if the iPhone is locked and the screen dark.

Let's keep looking into this with you. Can you test this in different apps as well? Also, are all of your apps updated? Has your iPhone been restarted recently?

Please let us know and we can continue investigating.

All that was shared works what fails to work that did work in iOS 14 was that when the goes in the loch mode I could still change the volume up or down. Also if I change to a second app the sound app cannot be controlled I still can hear the sound app but cannot control it unless I again select the sound app. Also when the phone locks I lose the ability to adjust volume. Again this all worked in the previous release.

Ok I have tried the music app and it is working as I expected. I then launched the app I use with the music app running in the background and the volume controls work as expected. Only when I launch my AFR app by it self acts as I described. I will reach out to the AFR app provider with this problem. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled with no positive result.
