missing iTunes metadata after upgrade to Big Sur

I see a lot of folks with this same problem, but no solution yet.

As part of my macOS upgrade from High Sierra to Big Sur 11.5.2, I was forced upgraded my iTunes to the new Music app.

I avoided it as long as possible but finally gave in last weekend due to concerns for data security.

I have a huge music library captured from my CD collection. My music files were imported just fine (as far as I can tell) but all of the meta data: playlists, date added, ratings, etc, etc are all gone and I can't figure out how to import this information into the Music App. I don't use iCloud or subscribe to Apple Music. I have no use for it. Does anyone have a workaround for this problem yet?

This just feels like another play by Apple to force people to pay for services they don't want.
