So I thought if I got a new phone with an updated iOS it would get fixed, but I was wrong. This has been happening for months where it tells me to use the app on the phone and won't load with CarPlay. This has been happening over many different vehicles (I change cars due to work every few days). Any suggestions?

This is happening via wired. I tried three separate wires, one brand new. I deleted and reinstalled the app. Nothing worked...
I renamed my phone, opened the app on the phone while it was plugged in and it works now! Seems that did the trick.

Testing in different vehicles was a great idea. Can you try renaming the iPhone in Settings > General > About > Name to see if that helps?
Is this happening via wired connection or Bluetooth? If hard wired, can you test using another shorter Apple certified cable?
