Browser history

I typically use both google chrome and safari on my iPhone.

im right in thinking that search engines track browsing history?

On the web browsers themselves on my iPhone it retains the history too.

If for example you edit that history and keep only stuff you might want to go back to later, and delete other browsing history, does your phone actually track that you have deleted it?

How does it work?

iPhone XR, iOS 15

Yes, that’s correct.

ould google also know what I have deleted from the history tabs on particular devices or would they just have a full list?

That I don’t know, as I don’t use Google because I don’t trust them. I know you can view the information that Google has based on your use of Google products, and that you can request that they delete it. You can find how to do this on their website.

Therefore, could I specifically say to google, can you provide me with a list of deleted history that I did during a specified period on my iPhone or would they only be able to supply me a full history list?

Just trying to get my head around what I could ask for if I needed to.

I would guess that depends on the browser. But browsers don’t “track” anything; I think you are asking if something that you delete from browser history can still be viewed by someone using the browser. And the general answer is no, but someone with tools to examine internal data structures in the browser app may be able to find deleted data unreused storage, or in a backup made of the phone before you removed it. And some iOS viewers such as iMazing or TouchCopy might be able to find it.
