Reading a JSON file
In ios 15 there is the App Recorder that produces a JSON file. How do you read it? Seems silly to add that function and not be able to read the results. There must be a way.
Thanks.

When IOS 15 came out the article (at Komando.com, I think) stated the Record App Activity would provide a report on what your apps are doing in the background that you don't know about. To see the activity you have to send the json file to yourself.
I've included 2 screenshots. Thanks.

Hello Harvey,
It sounds like you have a few questions about JSON files on the iPhone. We understand how important this is to you and we are here to help.
Seems like you can use the Shortcuts app with JSON files as mentioned here: Intro to using JSON in Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad
For more information about the semantics of JSON, visit: Introducing JSON
Hopefully this helps.
Cheers!
Harvey,
Thank you for those details. This would generally be used by developers.
More information about this can be found here: Inspecting App Activity Data
If you want more information on this, we would recommend reaching out to Apple directly.
You can contact them by going to Get Support
Good Luck!
Hopefully Apple will come up with something that will condense the info into something less technical.
Thanks for the reply but that shortcuts app confused me even more. Where's the info it's supposed to tell me?
Not being a techie (far from it) I read an article about the app recorder that made it sound as if the recorder would tell you what your apps are doing behind your back. It didn't say I'd need a phd in computer science to decipher it.
Where am I going wrong?
Harvey,
Thank you for those details.
We have a few questions to better understand your issue.
Which app recorder are you referring too? Where are the files being stored? Which iPhone are you currently using?
Also, what happens when you attempt to open the files produced by the app?
Take Care!
I was under the impression from the article that it was for consumers to let the phone's owner know what their apps were doing in the background.
https://www.komando.com/security-privacy/record-app-activity-ios/808890/
But it does mention it can be hard to decipher the information.
A JSON file is a file that allows you to configure or document what an app is doing. It is typically used by developers and IT admins to interact with an app.
It can be. It is saying that the Walmart app has been accessing your location, and has accessed your camera once. It also tells the start and end time of the access.
So I've got to ask Walmart: why is the their app accessing my camera? Hmmmmm.
