Logic Pro crashes every single time when I try to select an audio input (Macbook Air M1)

Hi everyone. As the title states, i'm unable to select a recording input on logic as it crashes the software every time. I've tried reinstalling, updating MacOS, removing all AU's, using a Audio Interface, but nothing seems to work.

Here's a crash log:

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Hi,

Some common causes of crashes are M1/OSX conflicts with legacy third party products or a corrupt prefs file.

Here are a few suggestions:

1) Make sure all your plugins fully support Big Sur (and M1 hardware if applicable) and are up to date.  Lots of legacy issues are causing lots of headaches and some started with Catalina. Critical: Remove and delete any Audio devices in the Apple Audio Midi Setup and uninstall any that are not valid.

2) Same for any MIDI devices ( keyboards, controllersnadapters or interfaces). Make sure all your devices fully support Big Sur and are up to date. Remove and delete any MIDI devices in Logic ( controllers ), in the Apple Audio Midi Setup and uninstall any that are not valid.

3) Corrupt preferences file can be the root of many problems.  Search this forum and you will find lots of threads.

You can rebuild the preferences file within Logic but you will need to reset all your personal preference settings. If you have set any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults.  You can save your personal/custom key commands as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual.

Quit logic

The file is in  ~/Library/Preferences

Delete  com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder.

The preference files will be rebuilt next time Logic starts.

4) Always start from a cold boot and avoid restarts or changing accounts prior to working with Logic.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Some MIDI devices will get added as a control surface once connected. They can also be added as an Audio Interface in Apple Audio /Midi Setup. ) This was why I recommended to remove and delete any MIDI and/or Audio devices in the Apple Audio Midi Setup and uninstall any that are not valid.

Try these steps:

1) Logic: Control Surfaces : Setup and delete any unused Control Surfaces that have been added.

2) Logic: Control Surfaces : Rebuild Defaults

Cold boot and test

3) Still having issues try Logic: Control Surfaces : Bypass All Control Surfaces

Cold boot and test

4) Last resort to delete the Control Surfaces File in ~/Library/Preference Delete com.apple.logic.pro.cs as well as com.apple.logic10.plist

Cold boot and test

I hope something helps you get up and running.
