HomePod volume really low on music

Hi,

I just got a HomePod today and what I’ve noticed so far is that the volume is what I expected when playing a radio station - it’s loud and full - but when I play songs from Apple Music it’s a fraction of the volume at the same setting.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting I need to toggle to get Apple Music to play songs at the same quality of volume as the radio stations?

Thanks!

Hello Garry819,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From your post, it seems the volume is different depending on the source in Apple Music. We'll provide some settings that might improve this.

In Settings > Music, there are few settings to check:

  • Sound Check: This will match all sound volume to a common volume. Enabling might improve the drastic difference in volume.
  • Dolby Atmos, EQ and Audio quality can affect volume as well, especially depending on if the music you listen to is downloaded or streamed. Check these to see if you have differing quality settings.
  • There's also a Sound Check setting with the HomePod. This link will provide where to check that: Change HomePod settings

We hope these help improve the quality and volume of the sound. Kind regards.

Garry819,

It is not expected for volume to differentiate drastically from different sources in Apple Music.

If you haven't already, Restart your iPhone and the HomePod, then try playing the same songs again to see if the volume changes.

If you're still having issues, try resetting just the HomePod and trying again: Reset HomePod

If you still see the same thing, reach out to Apple Support directly: Get Support

Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I had already checked and played around with those settings but none make any difference.

It seems to be radio that is much better quality than any other source. It doesn’t matter if it’s a song I am streaming or downloaded on my device, the quality output is much lower.

Anything else you can suggest as so far quite disappointed if that’s the expected quality from Apple Music.

Thanks.
