You can control notifications for individual accounts you have added in Mail. Check to see if you have sounds enabled for the accounts you'd like to receive alerts for. You can check this by opening the Settings app > choose Notifications > Mail > Customize Notifications > select the account > enable Alerts.

Are other sounds working on your device? Can you play and hear ringtones and alarms in Settings? Are you hear music or other audio through the speakers? If not, here are some things you can try If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker.

Try toggling off notifications for Mail, restart your device, and then re-enable them. Does the issue continue?

Do you have multiple mail accounts added in Mail? If so, is this happening only with a specific account or all mail accounts?
