iPhone 13 pro lens flare

Are these signs of camera defects with my iPhone 13 Pro Max? I keep getting these lens flares when taking photos and videos with bright sources of light. Happens allot with the sun during day and bright lights during night.

Yes and they're normal. Before you take the photo, you can easily see the flares on the screen. Alter the angle of the phone relative to the bright lights and you can eliminate the flares.

While these two photos were taken on iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can see what I'm talking about.

Exactly. Didn’t have any on the 11 and because I hadn’t and skipped a gen, when they popped right up on the 13 Pro Max I thought it had to be an assembly defect. Nope, now I know… it’s what the phone does! Had no preparation and since Apple touted it as movie studio/film maker quality, I expected better…

Now I know…sound like it’s coming on the 14, too!

Well as stated, not only has every iPhone back to at least the iPhone 6 does this, when you state:

Had no preparation and since Apple touted it as movie studio/film maker quality, I expected better…

the issue is one of expectations, as I've posted photos of the same types of artifacts occurring with $50,000+ cameras and lenses used by movie studios and filmmakers.

The problem is still there since the iphone 11.
my old huawei mate 10 deliveres better photos and almost no lens flare..
so i have my brand new 11 still in its box.
very dissapointed with the camera quality.
last week visited apple store and the new 13 has the same problems

Then clearly iPhone 13 is not the right phone for you. For however, while I loved my iPhone 12 Pro Max, my 13 Pro Max takes even better photos in almost ALL situations. It's far and the best camera on any phone I've ever owned.

There are many improvements over the 12 series phones. Larger cameras, lower apertures let in more light, especially in low light situations and for the first time ever in an iPhone, the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have Macro photography capabilities.

Are these differences significant. No. iPhone 12 phones already took great photos. The 12 Pro models have lidar sensor and triple cameras, so a bit more impressive capabilities than a 12. But the improvements were enough to get me to upgrade my 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max.

It's getting to the point that my very nice Nikon DSLR and array of very expensive lenses are not being used much, if any of late. To have a phone camera system that rivals and in some ways outperforms a DSLE Camera and lenses is really impressive!

Hello lobsterghost1 ~ My Canon eos doesn’t get much action either ….you are making the decision easier and easier to make…although I would have to go with the 13 mini for I have grasping issues. Now … the really tough question …will all my 12 mini cases fit the 13 mini 😉. All joking aside you put together such an informative post above as always…you must have some major writing skills. Thx once again for your time and knowledge.

While I think I may not upgrade yearly, I kid myself as I just enjoy my toys too much. Getting the new phone every year is what I do.

My iPad Pro 11 is 2018 and I haven't yet found a major need to move up. Sure the newest pros have better cameras, but to me, I have never found a need to take photos on an iPad.

My Apple Watch is Series 4. If they come out with one which is a truly significant upgrade to the Series 4, I'll do that. We may upgrade this year to the New Series 7. It's got a bigger screen, always on display, a longer lasting battery and more memory, is it could well be the upgrade to get up into a new watch. It could be Santa's gifts this year.

I get the new phone every year for two big reasons:

1) It is the computing device I interact with the most. If the speed bump from the new processor saves me just one second per day, that's 365 seconds, or six minutes I get back per year.

2) It is the camera I use the most. While I have a DSLR, as the old saying goes "the best camera is the one you have with you."

No. You use a 20w charging brick with Magsafe. That said, speed is not super important to me. I use the recommended put your phone a charger when you go to sleep and leave it charging all night long, every night. The phone is connected to Wifi, backups to iCloud and using Optimized Battery Charging, learns your charging routine, charging the phone to 80%, stopping the charge, to restart charging before you get up and the phone is 100% charged.
