iPhone 13 pro lens flare

Are these signs of camera defects with my iPhone 13 Pro Max? I keep getting these lens flares when taking photos and videos with bright sources of light. Happens allot with the sun during day and bright lights during night.

Yes and they're normal. Before you take the photo, you can easily see the flares on the screen. Alter the angle of the phone relative to the bright lights and you can eliminate the flares.

While these two photos were taken on iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can see what I'm talking about.

This photo show lens flare:

Simply angling the camera differently without moving at all produced this photo:

Yes it is possible to solve changing the angles, but this show the limit of this lens.

Usually could happen with wide angle lens.

I used to take night pictures also with 10-24 Fuji lens and Samsung S21, and Note20 Ultra and 12-24 Dx Nikon.

Here a shot where there it a monitor mirrored in the night sky.

It is clearly not a flare. My dougther was near me with her S21 and her picture was perfect.

here another picture where there is reflections three-dimensional perspective. This is not flare

I repeat, this is Not normal.
Flares could be normal in some lenses in certain conditions. As photographer I know.
But those reflections/mirroring of part of the images are Not flares

Sorry, but they ARE normal. And when you create a camera which is immune to them, you'll be richer beyond your dreams. I'll wait in line to buy such a system.

Flares are normal in certain condition of light. I know. Expecially with wide-angle lenses.

The strange things here are mirroring of part of images as a large street screen perfectly reproduced in the night sky.

In years of photos I have seen and sometimes voluntarily searched for the flares (they could be useful in some photos as light effects) , but never seen something like that. This is why I have thought about limits of this camera phone compared to other systems.

Bare with me, I'm not saying that there's faulty optical engineering. I think it's probably a tradeoff in the amazing engineering that builds such a performing camera in such a small device.

And I'm not saying that it's not common with any other camera. I'm just saying that *in my experience* I've hardly ever seen such pronounced reflections as in many photos I got and saw with the iPhone 13, normal and pro.

Then again, I find the statistical hypothesis perfectly sound: the sensors and AI do better and better work at night, people shoot more at night, people get more reflections. Again, I've done quite a bit of night photography and the only times I got such apparent reflections was when I forgot a transparent filter on the lens.

Again:

Attempts to mitigate flares through software will eliminate desired photo details, too.

You can’t work around optics.

Note that camera companies that have been around for 100+ years like Leica and Nikon have not solved this issue either, nor have Canon (a baby at 85) or consumer electronics giants Sony or Panasonic let alone cinema camera companies like Cooke, Panavision and RED.
