Well, it turned out to be a silly APPLE error. Without telling anyone, Apple removed the "Profiles" tab under "General" and created a new tab combining profiles and VPN into a single tab called "VPN and Device Management." The correct path to remove the profile is:

navigation->General>VPN and Device Management>Profiles>delete profile

Deleting the profile automatically deletes the IMAP account.

Geez, what a stupid thing to do.

Hi Ybrown,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue removing an IMAP account from your iPhone. We'd like to help.

You mentioned that your email provider downloaded a profile on your device and that profile has incorrect information. While trying to access your account, you're unable to get mail or edit the account. This is likely related to the profile that is installed. Have you reached out to your email provider about the incorrect information on your device? That may be the best step for you since the profile may need to be edited on their end first.

Let us know what happens after you connect with your email provider.

Take care!
