I can no longer change the size or colour of a font in an email. I'm not talking about the preferences but when I highlight the text and select a new colour or font size, they don't take.
Any help gratefully received.

Have you attempted for Safe Mode - Shift immediately at restart. Does a Repair disk, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. That some time to load - Normal. It will basically eliminate all Third Part Software, extensions etc from loading.
Then - test if the issue is still present.
Restart in normal mode to exit Safe Mode and test again.

When composing a New e-mail in the top Ribbon of the New Message - normally the Font Type can be changed as well as the Font Size.
Also, in that same Ribbon - there is again normally a Black Box appearing. Click that black box with the text wanting to change colours and change it.
Thanks for your help - but my problem isn't that I don't know how to do it - I've been doing it for years. It's just that now, when I highlight the text in the email, and select the new font size or new font colour from the drop-downs, nothing happens.
Also, when I try to change the text background colour, that doesn't work either. Only the bold and italic buttons work; the align buttons don't work, neither does the typeface button.
Ps I've tried restarting the machine, and disk first aid - neither of which made any difference.
