Pinch to zoom in Safari not working consistently on IOS 15

Just to add my voice confirming that this is finally fixed for me on my iPhone XS on iOS 15.3. Not sure how long the forgiving will take though. I'm not pretending this was initially deliberate, but the neglect and disrespect in not acknowledging or prioritising is practically the same thing.

Exact same. iPhone 13 pro max after most recent iOS update. If I use Ecosia browser- no problem.

For me (iPhone X), it hardly occurs in chrome, no problem at all in photos app, and excruciatingly frustrating in mail and safari.

The tip to pinch while scrolling has saved my sanity.

No it definitely still happens on 15.1. It just may happen less often on some sites than the others, so you may not be noticing it right away. Problem happens in every app that uses WebKit for rendering content. Safari, Mail, any 3rd party browser.

Xs Max. I notice if there’s a graphic in the email it makes it even hard to pinch and zoom. The only work around from another person who post is to very lightly place both fingers to zoom in or out which is not always practical. It’s good to have something better than nothing at the moment. Wish they fix this. I have to go to my Mac to respond to work now.

Still happening for me. iPhone XS Max. Noticed it immediately after an update about three months ago. It seems to be consistently inconsistent. I find that if I slowly place my thumb and forefinger together then it somewhat reliably enters zoom mode, but as soon as the fingers aren’t touching, it’s way less reliable.

Is the problem already solved with iOS 15.1? At least that's what it looks like for me

edit: i turned off 3D touch and everything seems to be working (pinch to zoom in/out) again, it’s weird

I called and was told the engineers are investigating it and it would appear in a future update. Which update and with what priority, however, is anyone’s guess.

Try to Pinch out, then pinch in, in a single motion.

In addition to the OP’s excellently concise description, it’s also possible sometimes to double-tap the screen and it will zoom in a bit, however, it then refuses to zoom back out again.

i have an iPhone X, totally up to date iOS-wise.

Really glad I found this posted somewhere. It’s been driving me absolutely nuts and I haven’t been able to find anything anywhere that would tell me whether or not this was a new intended ‘feature’ in iOS 15 or a bug.

Seems that it is a bug, and a really really really annoying one.

I would suggest you to try it on a few different websites first. It's great if it worked for you, but disabling the 3D touch was the first thing I tried doing on my iPhone X, trying to fix this, and it ended up not making any difference. I'm not sure, but the problem may be happening more often on some website than the others.

I just played around in a few other open tabs and still seem to be getting great results with 3D off. Go figure, but yeah I do hope apple comes up with a permanent fix, but not optimistic as it only seems to be happening with our older models.

I'm on iPhone X / 15.2 and it's definitely not fixed for me either. I don't think it's any better either. It's just that I've become more conscious that if I'm touching the screen extremely lightly, the pinch gesture is more likely to work, so that's what I'm doing now. But any time I press on it normally, it fails at least 50% of the time.

Issue still present with 15.2 update on iPhone X . Mostly, I noticed the problems by zooming in mail app. 6 times repeating till it works. I hate this issue. Quality of updates is going down. If I could, I would go back to iOS14. As someone saying to disable ios15 live text is a workaround. I can say this does not work on iphoneX, it does not support live text, so it can’t be deactivated. 782 people replied here to have the issue. Apple do anything now!
