I cannot figure out how to close an open tab in Google Chrome on my iPhone. The box I used to click to close a tab has suddenly disappeared. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out what to do? I can only close all of my tabs, not one individually.

You have to tap ABOVE the "X". Don't actually click on the "X", click a couple millimeters above it. It is like the put the "X" in the wrong position. Horrible design, not intuitive, but this definitely will close the page immediately without having to click again.
Open the Google Chrome app and get to the point of displaying all the tabs. You can now see the option to close all apps at the bottom. Of course, do not use that option if you just want to close one tab. You can close each tab by tapping on the "X" at the top right of the tab image. See photo below:

Agreed, when 100% of people see an “X” they tap it. Having to hold it down is incredibly unintuitive!
I totally agree. Why can’t we just tap the “x” on the top right to close a tab anymore!?
I finally figured out how to close an individual tab in Google Chrome. It’s a two step process instead of one step like it used to be. I click and hold on the “X” at the top right of the page and a box pops up with options, one of which is “close tab” which I then select.
Forgot to mention in my response above that in order to get to the “X” at the top right, I have to go out of the current tab. I do that by clicking on the box at the bottom right which has the number in it. When I do that, all tabs appear and an “x” at the top right also appears. I select and hold the “x” and then the option to “close tab” appears.

You can also close a tab by clicking and holding the box with the number of the tab in it at the bottom of the page. When held down the option to “close tab” appears.
See my response to Brillo1 below. You have to click just ABOVE the X. Don't click on the X, aim a bit higher up
They fixed it, it works like it used to now.
You have to physically touch ABOVE the "X". Don't click right on the "X", aim for just above it at the top right corner above the "X".
