If you are seeing "flicker" because your camera is switching between the wide and ultra wide lenses in Auto Macro mode, shutting it off will solve the issue.
If you are seeing "flicker" because the frame rate of an LED or fluorescent light interferes with the shutter rate, you can only avoid that by changing the exposure.
It actually doesnt occur as much on video. Just when trying to take a photo, when it changes to macro mode, the camera flickers then when in macro mode, camera quality gets so bad. Too bad they still didnt address this on the new 15.0.1 update. Pls see attached photo for the comparison of macro mode quality vs normal
this is definitely a result of the camera switching to macro mode. My iPhone 11 Pro used to never do this, and now I have the iPhone 13 Pro. It didn’t do this in the beginning, but with one of the new updates it has started doing this and it drives me insane because it ruins the picture and lighting quality and will happen randomly in the middle of a video that I do a lot for work. I just noticed this new feature in the camera settings hopefully this answers your question! It gives you control over whether or not to activate the macro camera (The flower glows yellow if the Macro camera is turned on, that is when I see the worst quality on my phone camera)
You're in night mode. Night Mode requires the phone to be held with a great deal of stability. Try taking the photo or video in the same setting, and hold the phone with both hands, which will be more stable. Does the flicker still happen?
You're expecting too much from Macro mode. You've got a overly wide area you're expecting to be in total focus. Based on your subject, there is no way everything in the scene you tried to photograph could ALL be in focus.
I had this issue, took it to apple genius bar. Had a replacement (took two hours at the apt) - now it’s still happening and I don’t want to go in again :(. I know a few other people it is happening to. It happens regardless of whether there is a case on the phone.
Thank you!!!! I really appreciate this - just saved me so much frustration!
You may be able to minimize it by changing the exposure of your photo, but otherwise it’s unavoidable.
Yes, read the posts here regarding the "Macro Control" option like the one immediately above yours.

As of iOS 15.2:
Yes, absolutely that would account for the flicker. You're simply trying to take a video of an object, which moves too close up and the camera is trying to adjust.
Exactly same to me recently got a video from a mate on fb messenger and flickers whole way through
Exactly what happens to me
I’m also experiencing this. A little annoying as I purchased this phone for the better camera and it’s worse. I’m going to apple today to see if its fixable.
Let’s us all know the outcome and hopefully they don’t pass on it and refuse to acknowledge there is a fault
thanks 😀
