iPhone 7 - No SIM detected

Hi, so I have been having this problem with my iPhone 7 for a few months. It suddenly stopped detecting the SIM card. I called Apple customer care at that time and they said that the problem isn't covered under any warranty.

I happened to go to the Apple store yesterday for another device, and I showed my iPhone 7 there. This guy was positive that my phone can be replaced for no cost (after checking Serial No. etc.) as it's under the "iPhone 7 Repair Program for "No Service" Issues". He checked with his colleagues, but this couldn't be done, unfortunately, as the phone was purchased more than 3 years ago.

My question here is if I'm still eligible to get my phone replaced because the loss of time isn't my fault.

Thanks, Brian and Katana.

I contacted Apple Support, but as expected, got a very chatbot-like response.

I know now that the phone is covered under the "no service issue" program, but not under the warranty as it's been more than 3 years that it was purchased. However, an Apple Support assistant had told me a few months ago (when I first had this issue) that the phone isn't covered under this program. So, they basically gave me the wrong information, due to which I stopped trying to get it fixed/replaced. And now as this whole time is lost in between, I can't get my phone replaced.

What a scam!
