Cannot restore contacts thru Time Machine.....HELP!!

Hi everyone: When I upgraded to Big Sur all my contacts tripled. I went up to look for duplicates, and like the idiot that I am, clicked "merge selected cards" and now I have four contacts. I went to time machine for a restore, but when I look through the previous dates I get views with no contact cards.
