Pages Chart - Locking Chart & Allowing Accessibility 2 Certain Cells Only (MacOS Big Sur V.11.6)

I have found out how to Lock & Unlock the Chart, but Excel had the feature where the chart could be locked for structural editing purposes - yet still allow data to be filled in on particular cells chosen. Can Pages do this please?

I noticed that the last two examples of your charts were not showing locked indicators, and in Numbers v11.2, a locked chart will not update to reflect new data entered into the table from which it was based. Tested on macOS 11.6.

HI B0DEACIA,

You have posted in the Pages for Mac forum, but you mentioned Excel. What you say is true in Pages (when a graph is locked, there is no way to Edit Graph Data).

However in Numbers, the graph data are in a table on the "canvas" of a Sheet (Tab), not hidden as in Pages. Here are two tables in Numbers with data, always accessible.

Table 1 contains data for a Scatter Graph to the right of that table.

Table 2 contains data for a Column Graph to the right of that table.

Both graphs are locked (as shown by the small grey x marks).

Add, delete or edit data in the tables.

Here, I added an extra row to each table and inserted new data.

The graphs automatically update.

You can "hide" (Cut and Paste) the data tables to another Sheet (Tab).

Perhaps Pages is not the right tool for what you want to do.

Regards,

Ian.

Hi B0DEACIA,

The change you call forin one that would require a change to the software—a topic beyond the scope of this user-to-user community.

Use the Provide Pages Feedback menu item in the Pages menu to make a Feature enhancement request directly to Apple. Describe clearly the feature change/enhancement you are requesting.

Apple's Pages and Numbers were never designed to be clones of Word and Excel. Consequently, how you do things in those Microsoft applications may be done differently, or not at all, and the support you seek for a locked chart automatically updating with newly added table data does not work in either Pages, or Numbers applications (v11.2 on macOS 11.6).

"[T]his was the comment that was meant to read 'Solved'. I cannot seem to change it from the above comment. Oh well, we live and learn!"

As the OP (original poster of the question), you are allotted two "Helpful" markers and one "Solved" marker. The only change allowed in these is converting one of the "helpful"s to "solved," a change that is available only if the "Solved" has not yet been assigned.

Either of the markers will cause a copy of the marked post to be placed at the top of the list, and a Solved will change the checkmark beside the listing of the question from grey to green (which, in some of the communities, may discourage further posts, but doesn't seem to in Pages or Numbers.
