Apple TV 4k no longer syncs picture and sound through projector and airplay speakers. Why?

Hello there,

I have been using my pair of Teenage engineering OD-11 speakers very happily with the Apple TV 4k device for the last couple of years. Now, all of a sudden, the sound no longer syncs with the picture. Has this been reported from other users?

I use a projector connected to the apple tv then the sound is sent over airplay to the OD-11s.

Not long ago Apple 'updated' the TV OS so that the OD-11 cannot be selected as 'default' speaker. Only Apple speakers can do this... So maybe there has been another update which makes Apple speakers also the only ones which sync with the picture?

There's actually a 'sync picture to sound' feature on the Apple TV device but this only works with speakers set as default. Which Apple have disabled for non-Apple speakers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I use an airport express 802.11n (so airplay1) with Rotel receiver and have experienced same issue after 15.0 update. I've tried all i can, no luck. So i've configured a raspberry pi4 with shairport-sync development implementation that support airplay2 and the sound is in sync.

So Apple should be clear: are they dropping support for airplay1 and audio sync, or this is a clear bug of new 15.0 and new player. With PLEX that use a different player, is all in sync.

So now it's Apple that must fix his Airplay 1 protocol on TvOS for their new player.

I experience issue on Prime, Disney+, TV+ and even with screensavers when playing music.

I see a similar thing with sound going over AirPlay to my and Airport Express and audio system. It will start out in sync, but the video will stutter every few seconds for a fraction of a second, progressively lagging behind the audio more and more. After watching a program for a minute or so the video lags behind the audio by several seconds. I have seen this in Netflix, Amazon Prime, and even Apple's own Trailers app. Using the audio calibration feature in Settings does not remedy this.

Same issue.

I think that is a primary problem to address, because we are talking about a "streamer" device that cannot stream correctly.

And using all proprietary tech. Airplay is dev by Apple and is broken.

Is a shame that a boring major release like 15.0 brings a similar problem...

Hoping for a rapid fix in 15.1...

Hi! I have exactly the same set up and have experienced the same problem since the tvOS update! I’ve tried to connect via Bluetooth, but it’s the same problem. :(
