Choppy video playback and audio sync problems with tvOS 15

Immediately after updating to tvOS 15, I’ve had sync problems when connected to external speakers via AirPlay. Video playback has significant hiccups, while the audio continues apace, causing them to get out of sync. When using default speakers, this doesn’t occur — only when AirPlaying to external speakers.

Other details about my setup:

AppleTV HD (A1625 32GB)
pioneer speakers connected to Yamaha RX-V477 receiver with AirPlay support
Apple TV plugged into Ben-Q projector
1080p 60hz resolution
configuration is default otherwise. Match content off, audio modes all auto

This setup has been rock solid for close to two years. Never a problem until tvOS 15.

Anybody else seen this and have a solution?

We are different user reports of similar issues with 15.0

A solution?? Nope, that must be fixed by Apple!!

I've found a workaround using a raspberry Pi, building shairport-sync for airport2 protocol and using it as an airplay receiver... It's not an optimal solution indeed, but is working correctly with audio in sync and no judder, hiccups and out of sync.

I think that the airplay problem is with airplay1 protocol, because if i build shairport-sync for airplay1 i have the same issue.

I was using an airport express 802.11n 1st gen base, and after the upgrade, i've done several test, included a complete reinitialization of apple tv with no luck until this workaround with RPi...

Hoping for a fix very soon.

I think that if multiple of us are sending feedback about the issue, they should prioritize it: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple

I have the same problem. Worked fine before syncing audio wirelessly over AirPlay to my Sony receiver. But with new iOS it now works for a moment and then quickly gets out of sync and the video is jittery. Would love this to get fixed in an update. Thanks.

Thanks. I had a lengthy call with Apple support, ending with my providing them video proof and diagnostic logs. I'll update this thread if/when they come back with an update.
