Cannot parse response

Hello Apple-Communities,

I've the problem when I try to access a site with any iOS device I got the error message: cannot parse response.

But when I open the same site with a Microsoft or Android device the site opens without problem. Even in the web developer console from firefox on Microsoft there is no problem nor warning stated.

So for me the site looks fine, but Apple can't parse it?

I also tried Chrome on this iPhone8. Due to the fact, that on iOS devices safari's rendering engine is allways used i got the message: ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE on Chrome too.

Anybody able to help me with this issue?

With kind regards

René

Hi OASE_Software,

We see when attempting to access a site with any iOS device you get an error, "cannot parse response".

To get started, can you let us know the following?,

  • Is one specific website, you're able to browse to other sites in Safari without issue?
  • Does the issue persist on multiple networks?
  • Is there any VPN software or profile installed that might change how the iPhone connects to the network?

Let us know and we'll follow up from there.

Cheers!

Hi DerekM87,

here are my anwsers to your questions:

  • yes actually it is one specific site where the error occurs, on other sites safari can open pages without problems. I posted the URL in my question, but a moderator deleted the mentined URL
  • not only on multiple networks but also on multipe devices
  • yes on our device there is a BarracudaVPN client installed. But this one was disabled while opening the desired URL. As I mentioned in anwnser 2 we also tried it with different devices.

With kind regards

René

OASE_Software,

Thanks for the additional information.

Given the steps you've taken to isolate the issue and the fact it persists on multiple iOS devices, there is likely something within the way this site is coded or setup that is not compatible with iOS.

While we'd be unable to speculate as to what the specific compatibility issue is, if this is a website that offers customer support, we'd recommend reaching out to them to let them know their site is not accessible on iOS devices.

Take care.

Good Morning DerekM87,

yes we also reached out to the creator of the site which is Roundcube.

Maybe you can give it a try and open the site h t t p s : / / w e b m a i l [dot] n e t 4 y o u [dot] n e t

I've to wirte the URL in this strange format because my first post where edited by a moderator, because it is now allowed to post URL's here. I hope this will work.

The problem is, this is a very small site. It is only the login-screen for a webmail portal. As described in my first post on other operating systems with several browser the browser doesn't even report warings nor errors on the site in the web developer console.

So I've no clue, why the safari rendering engine is not able to display (parse) the site.

With kind regards.

René

OASE_Software,

We certainly understand the confusion and can confirm that site does not open on iOS devices with the 'unable to parse' error.

Our best recommendation from here would be to continue working with Roundcube as the issue is specific to that site, it would be up to the creator or web developer to isolate what in the site is incompatible with Safari.

Sorry we are unable to be of more assistance.

Take care.
