Unlock M1 MacBook Pro with watch not working

After updating M1 MacBook Pro BigSur 11.6 with Device Support Update patch on 9/30/21, iPhone 13 running 15.0.1, Watch 6 running 8.0, iPhone will unlock with mask using the watch - no issues.

Problem is MacBook Pro has now stopped unlocking with Watch - fixed one, broken another...

I have unchecked/checked unlock this Mac with Watch in System Preferences, restarted all 3 devices and nothing fixes this. Seems like s/w QA has dropped in this release quite a bit. Any ideas about how to make this work again are welcome. Tks

I was going to pull this down, but decided to leave up.

Mysetriously, after being 45 mins away from sleeping MacBook Pro, upon returning and waking up, got familiar click and sound on watch and voilá, unlock is working again. Nothing between my original post and this was done....

BobHarris: thank you. I went ahead and followed all to the T (there were old files from old devices in there that may have been interfering). All good. Thanks again!
