LTE/5G very slow afte upgradint to iphone 13 pro max

I was getting double (or more) the speeds on the same network (Rogers Canada) on my iphone 12 pro max. Since i upgraded to 13 pro max everything is much slower. I reset my network settings and restarted the phone multiple times with no luck!

Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

Thanks

Same issue here. 5G speeds are hardly hitting 20 when they used to get over 100. On uploads it’s even worse, I’m hardly getting 1 when ion my 12 Pro Max it was in the 30’s. Both also seem erratic and not steady. Lots of fluctuations. I’m on ATT with strong 5G signal. I turned 5G off and LTE was about the same on download but faster on uploads. Maybe a carrier update is needed for these new phones?

Dogcow-Moof: I've seen your reply multiple times and while a carrier update might indeed be needed to fix the issue, there is no proof of that yet, in fact, I'd argue there's more evidence it's not carrier-related. For this to point to a carrier issue, multiple carriers would all have to have the same problem. Not everyone in this thread is on the same network. It might be possible that multiple carriers have a problem but the iPhone 13 didn't suddenly just show up on their networks without warning. I'd be very surprised if they all forgot to update databases to include the new phones. I think the evidence more likely points to a software update needed by Apple. Maybe it's a new 5G chip that isn't properly optimized in iOS. Who knows but let's keep an open mind to the evidence being reported. A fix might be needed in iOS, in the carrier settings file, or on the carrier networks themselves.

I agree with this entirely. My first guess was the network but as i tried different sims from different networks and same issue. Furthermore others are having similar issues not only from different networks but also different countries so there is something to be said about this issue and Apple should look into it.

So I just upgraded to an unlocked iPhone 13. Pro max 256gb today, bought it unlocked from apple and activated it on boost mobile, no issues, then later on I notice that the phone is downloading at less then 3g speeds in a full 5g area, so after doing some research, I disabled my 3rd party vpn (Torguard) reset all network settings and viola! It worked, downloads crazy fast now with no Wi-Fi, I’ll give you the link to the website that helped me figure this out https://shudhtech.blogspot.com/2021/10/slow-5G-internet-on-iPhone-13-pro-max.html?m=1

Hope it works for you

I’m having the same problems and I’m in South Korea. It’s extremely slow and I feel like I’m using 3G again. I’ve talked to my phone company, reset my network settings and made more memory on my phone and I’m still getting extremely slow network. I upgraded from an iPhone 8plus and I’m considering returning my phone and going back to my iPhone 8plus. Defo feels like a down grade and it ain’t worth the money so far.

Unfortunately It appears I’m having the same problem a few days later now and I’m not using any vpn of any sort nor do I have any 3rd party apps on my phone, I’ve contacted apple about it so I’ll keep you guys informed, I kinda wonder if it has anything to do with apples firmware or maybe something with the App Store, I’ve got tons of 5g coverage in my area (Denver) using boost mobile who is owned by T-Mobile and they have tons of 5g out here so it’s definitely not my carrier

Tons of 5G but you don’t know what slowdowns are due to carrier issues and to congestion deprioritization or throttling.

Boost notably now states that after 35 GB of data usage, accounts will be throttled to 2G speeds. Not may as it used to say, but will. Users who have hit that threshold say their speeds drop to 100-200 Kbps.

I don’t know if it’s still in the fine print, but Boost also used to state that if a T-Mobile tower was congested, data priority would be given to T-Mobile customers.

Note Boost is no longer owned by T-Mobile but rather they were purchased last year by DISH Network.

You're repeating yourself because you're not listening. Our carrier hasn't changed. I have a s205G. Gf had an iPhone 11 pro max. No issues. She just got a 13 pro max. She was complaining about internet loading slow. I didn't experience it. I called it in to Verizon. They claimed no issues or that it was resolved. We were just at the gas station today I had full 5g she couldn't load anything until we pulled out of the gas station. Something is wrong with the iPhone 13 with regards to it's 4g/5g connection.

UPDATE: While the problem might not be fully resolved, last night, I updated my iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 15.1 and today, 5G speeds seem much better and less erratic. Testing from the same spots as I did before, my download speeds are consistently above 50Mbps and my upload speeds jumped into the 20’s. Prior to the update, I was seeing single digits or worse on upload speeds and the speed seemed very erratic. While I have seen higher speeds elsewhere in town, from my home location, these results are right in line with the best speeds I’ve gotten at home.

For those experiencing the problem, I’d suggest updating to 15.1 to see if it helps. From all the comments here, it was pretty clear that an Apple software update was needed and that this wasn’t a carrier problem. Based on my brief testing with 15.1, it looks like an Apple update was indeed required.

The iPhone 11 did not support 5G.

Different equipment at the cell tower, different configurations.

Even with LTE, the iPhone 12 and 13 support different LTE frequency bands, so you can have an iPhone 11 next to an iPhone 12 or 13 where the 11 has full signal bars and the 12/13 show one bar or drop the connection.

The phone is not at fault in these scenarios, it’s your cellular carrier.
