LTE/5G very slow afte upgradint to iphone 13 pro max

I was getting double (or more) the speeds on the same network (Rogers Canada) on my iphone 12 pro max. Since i upgraded to 13 pro max everything is much slower. I reset my network settings and restarted the phone multiple times with no luck!

Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

Thanks

So I just upgraded to an unlocked iPhone 13. Pro max 256gb today, bought it unlocked from apple and activated it on boost mobile, no issues, then later on I notice that the phone is downloading at less then 3g speeds in a full 5g area, so after doing some research, I disabled my 3rd party vpn (Torguard) reset all network settings and viola! It worked, downloads crazy fast now with no Wi-Fi, I’ll give you the link to the website that helped me figure this out https://shudhtech.blogspot.com/2021/10/slow-5G-internet-on-iPhone-13-pro-max.html?m=1

Hope it works for you

Well on a sidenote I have determined my issue was simply a matter of time. So as previously stated I got My first 13 which had great LTE connectivity as well as 5G superfast but have a screen issue so I exchanged it and got a second one.and the second one seem to have issues with LTE connectivity being slow, well having had the phone a week now I’m not sure what happened but that slowness has seemingly disappeared. For example on my older iPhone SE on LTE mind you I was in my backyard getting 10 to 20 MB per second download and with that first iPhone 13 I was averaging in the same spot 30 to 60 MB per second. Well when I took back the first phone and they exchanged it in my backyard with the new one I was getting 5 to 10 MB per second well consistently over the last three days again in the same spot I’m averaging anywhere between 60 and 150 MB per second download. So I’m not sure what happened but it would seem that the error has corrected itself

Who is your carrier?

I had this exact same problem and I was with Verizon. It was dismal!

For cost reasons, I switched to T-Mobile and the problems went away.

I have no idea what the real problem is, but based on my own experience, I wonder if the issue was a compatibility issue with the new iPhone 13 Pro Max and Verizon? I know that sounds unlikely but when I switched to T-Mobile, the problem went away and my speeds were fantastic!

if you come back and say that you’re with Verizon, then this is going to further my belief it’s a Apple/Verizon issue. But if you come back and say you’re with T-Mobile…then I have no idea what’s going on!

These issues have been reported before oct, it's now Dec. It doesn't really matter who's fault it is, the end result is an unusable product. 1) apple should not have approved Verizon to release the phone on Verizon if they weren't ready. 2) apple's implementation is pathetic. The phone should be able to detect which band is bad and switch back to a better band, which still exists and not congested at all. 3) apple can easily send an update to not use those bands in those areas until it's resolved. In fact population hasn't grown by that much, iPhone users haven't grown by that much just blacklist all the new bands that aren't working until they are resolved.

Apple, regardless if it's a carrier issue that they don't have the new bands optimized, it's your failure for your product not to be able to switch to a good band, which is a normal basic functionality, like detecting the strongest wifi signal.

That's actually almost the literal definition of a carrier issue:

1) Phone is directed by the BSC to use a frequency that isn't properly configured, so it shows "No Signal."

2) When the Phone renegotiates with the tower BSC it is told to use 5G UW.

Verizon always claims the issue is Apple's… and then most often it magically starts working with no iOS changes from Apple.

Incorrect. From a user standpoint, the tower is there, and has the band and working. For the use to have to toggle the wifi for the phone to connect, means the phone is to dumb to know when to switch, and is a phone issue. The tower is not the only one that dictates the band to connect to, the phone can negotiate and chose the better signal, as it normally does when it goes from 3g, to 4g, to 5g, without user intervention. In fact, the phone should be smart enough to renegotiate itself without the need for me to toggle it, especially when it was on a band or connection that has NO signal to begin with.

Ashton,

This is basically my experience and you did a great job listing yet again all the things they tell you to try. They also sent me a replacement 13 pro max, no change. At this point we're also wishing we had our old 11 pro max back that had zero issues. The 13 still has issues to this day, after carrier confirmed their tower is optimized, that they sent a tech out to the tower, yada yada yada. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise and she won't ask for the latest iphone model next time, or at least after she gets one that works first.

"When the phone connects with the BSC it tells the tower of its capabilities and the tower assigns it a frequency/technology and the phone must honor that."

The phone is an iphone 13 pro max. It told the tower it's capabilities. The tower chose to give it no signal. Toggling wifi has 'no effect' except the phone just again told the tower the same capabilities as last time, and this time it got 5g uw. The tower had 5g uw the entire time at that location. So did the tower not understand the phone's report of it's capabilities the first time? Or did the phone fail to correctly notify the tower of it's capabilities?

First it was the carrier. Then its the tower. So carrier said its optimized. Carrier sent a tech to fix the tower. Now the tech is the failure because apparently he's not trained to specifically check for the issue. So its everyone and everything else's fault but the phone. Me sitting next to the phone with an S20 5g, and apparently the tower always got the right information of it's capabilities, but not the 13 pro max's. Makes so much sense.

*The i13 pro max basically has the same issue anywhere not at home on wifi. In our city, in the 3 adjacent cities, and in any city traveled in southern california.

I believe the issue is not WiFi. When I am on 5G, my 13 Pro Max phone is decently fast for internet. At least it feels no different than when I had an Iphone 8 and was on LTE. The issue is when my phone consistently drops to LTE and I cannot even load a website. It is like I am using 1x of old. After 10 minutes of trying, I was finally able to load and run a speed test while on LTE. The download speed was 2.7 Mbps. If the 13 Pro Max was running on its own bands, because those should not be congested, then there should not be an issue with the speed of LTE. There is an issue though. Half the time, my phone is unusable.

coincidently. Today I sit here in the restaurant with my own i13 pro now. There was a trade in deal it’s almost free. So I also went ahead and got a new sim for the gfs i13 pro max just in case. She has no mobile data and just had to toggle Wi-Fi off and got on 5g uw. I never lost mobile data and already on 5g uw. Now you may then say well it’s the tower not optimized so I may be on it so tower was full so she didn’t get on it. But then you’d expect it to at least be 50:50 chance I or her get on and not the other. Or if she’s really unlucky, 9:1 but it’s not. Here’s is always the one that has to toggle Wi-Fi. She has a lot on the phone so a backup and full factory reset will be the last thing to try. Again I’ve pretty much ruled out a carrier issue at this point having the same phone and having changed her sim.

I am still having data issues with my iPhone 13, 12 was much faster. This 13 is like 3g at times. I think Dog-Cow is just NOT listening!!! There is no reason that there couldn't just be lower quality chips, in some - not all, of these 13's. Mine has issues no matter which band I put it on. As I have tried switching back and forth from LTE, 5G and 5G auto. It doesn't happen all the time. I would say 15-20 %. It's also not when it's just on certain towers or in certain areas. It could also be a software issue, as we know how bad Apple software has struggled the past few years. They once where elite products. Now, they are just trying not to be as bad as the competition. It's a shame, really!! I wish I had my iPhone 12 back!!!!!
