Safari in iOS 15 keeps asking for providing a client certificate for each request

Our internal Web site is protected by a client certificate authentication.

Safari in iOS 15 keeps asking to provide a client certificate for each request. These certificates were installed via a configuration profile into an iPhone.

It is very annoying as a web side sends asynchronous calls frequently and therefore I'm asked to provide a certificate for each call.

This was not the case in iOS 14. In iOS 14, I have been asked to provide a client certificate for the first request only. Other subsequent requests till the session expiration were done with the same certificate without asking.

This seems to me like a bug in iOS 15.

Setup: iPhone 11, iOS 15.0.1

We have the same situation on an scenario where SAP Fiori is authenticated via Client Certificates. We additionally have a situation where there are 2 matching client certificates on the device so for users who don't have that situation the issue might not even happen?

Anyways it looks like there will be a client certificate popup for kind of each different request spawning from the so called Fiori launchpad, which is some kind of start page containing tiles to multiple SAP Fiori services.

The count of popup decreases when I eleminate the tiles from the launchpad.

Maybe this helps someone

ondrej.vasata,

We appreciate the clarification. Here's the resource you'd use for this issue: If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected. We'd suggest going through each one of the sections to see if it helps. There are good tips included under "Check network settings" that suggests ruling out the network too.

If you continue to encounter this issue, you can contact Apple Support for further assistance here: Contact Apple Support. They'll be able to assist you further to narrow down why this might be happening.

Take care.

Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Communities ondrej.vasata,

You've mentioned that you're having an issue with using Safari on your internal website at work.

We have this resource that might help: If Safari displays a blank page or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You might be doing this already but it's always a great spot to begin.

There is a new feature in iOS15: About iCloud Private Relay. This explains iCloud Private Relay, how to see if it's been set up and there is even a resource for developers under "Additional resources for developers and network administrators" that might help your company.

We hope this helped answer your concern.
